Walk: Astley's Plantation, Sow How Tarn, Monument, Simpson Ground Allotments, Simpson Ground Reservoir
Start Point: Fell Foot Brow car park Grid Reference: NY 388 874
Distance: 8 miles Ascent: 700 feet
Time: 6 hours
Weather: Mild with intermittent drizzle
Comments: A pleasant undulating walk over lots of waterlogged ground. Pleasant views from the Monument. These included the flooded pastures in the valley of the River Winster and, in the far distance, the monument overlooking Ulverston. Twenty-one people enjoyed this walk, including 'Two nice Post Office ladies'.

A brief pause by Sow How Tarn before . . .

finding a comfortable spot for 'elevenses'

Detouring to avoid the mud - probably the order of the day after all the rain we have had

Still, all that water provides some good reflections

A few 'ups' and 'downs' around here, as we approach . . .

the Monument on Cartmel Fell

A rocky descent as we leave the monument

And some rocks to provide a good seat for lunch

At least the stepping stones aren't completely submerged!
