|Walk:||Arnside Knott, Arnside Tower and the Pepper Pot|
|Start Point:||Silverdale Hotel||Grid Reference:||SD 459 748|
|Distance:||5.5 miles||Ascent:||820 feet|
|Weather:||Overcast and quite warm, humid, but stayed fine throughout.|
|Comments:||26 walkers completed the full walk and 3
took a more leisurely walk. The going was dry underfoot throughout
and the route took us along well-made paths. We started the walk
going northwards along the inland shore path as the tide was in. We
then took the road for a short distance before reaching the Caravan
Park where our path took us to the left and eventually ascended to
reach the summit of Arnside Knott. The worst ascent was over, so we
had an early coffee break and admired the view, but the Lakeland
Fells were covered in a heavy mist.
We descended the Knott through the woods making our way towards Arnside Tower. The pace slowed somewhat as the blackberries were too much of a temptation! We had another slight ascent to reach the upper end of the Caravan Park where we took the path behind the Children’s Play Area, it isn’t very obvious. We walked through the woods and took a left path upwards onto the limestone pavement above the crags and found the Pepper Pot, much to everyone’s delight, where we posed for a group photograph. It was then an easy, gradual, descent down into Silverdale. Although we had to wait a little while for our meals to be served I think everyone was quite happy with the service and quality of the meals. During our meal it began to pour down! Thank you everyone for a lovely relaxed day.
