|Walk:||Grasmere, Easedale Tarn, Codale Tarn, Tarn Crag, Far Easedale, Grasmere (ice cream shop!)|
|Start Point:||Grasmere first car park||Grid Reference:||NY 339 072|
|Distance:||8 miles||Ascent:||1,700 feet|
|Weather:||Sunny and dry with a light breeze|
|Comments:||"Despite my best efforts to discourage
them, 14 walkers turned up at Grasmere to climb Tarn Crag. Three
streetwise drivers found space in the school car park with its
honesty box while Gina and the Harrison's paid an eye watering £7
for their spot.
A sunny day, a mild breeze and as expected, the walk was done in reverse, clockwise round Easedale Tarn to climb rather than descend the scramble to Codale Tarn, where we had lunch. (There's always a charm about sitting near water with a sandwich and a drink.) Then a short climb to Tarn Crag. That was the plan. Bad map reading, wrong bearing and we were on a course for Greenup Edge. Much advice, gratuitous and ribald and we were at Tarn Crag 10 minutes later. Brief and personal reflections on absent friends then Gina led the long scamper down to the Far Easedale path. I elected to be the (almost out of sight) back marker and nearly kept up with the good natured pack. A rugged path back to Grasmere, some ice-cream and a pleasant drive home"
