||Dry, cool for time of year,
a hint of drizzle but enough blue sky to make a sailors suit.
||The weather was kind once again as the
group set out from Moor Howe in the general direction of Orrest Head
and led by Betsy. Having taken a break at Orrest Head and enjoyed
the views from there, the group then headed off to conquer School
Knott where more vistas could be seen. Between Orrest Head and
School Knott are the very busy Kendal to Windermere road and the
railway to Windermere. Of the two the railway was the easiest to
cross. After eating at School Knott Betsy took her party along part
of the Dales Way before leaving it to pass through Hag End and
Whasdike before re-crossing the railway and the extremely busy A951.
At “The Common Farm” the making of silage was in progress in many
fields. Although there are what appear to be reasonably new way
markers on the route over the fields, a farm hand tried to direct
the group down a green lane and off the official path. Maps and GPS
maps indicated that the group where on the correct route. (Walkers
beware at this farm). A few more field crossings and a bit of lane
walking saw the group arrive back at Moor Howe, a little tired
perhaps but exhilarated. Thank you leader!
