Walk: War memorial, Lentworth House, Long Bridge, Wyre Way to the Weir on Abbeystead Res., Hinberry Wood, Strait Lane, Higher Emmets, Long Lane, Lee bridge, Grizedale Bridge, Abbeystead Village, Bank Wood, Far House Barn, Church.
Start Point: Abbeystead, Christ Church lay-by Grid Reference: SD 551 545
Distance: 5 miles Ascent: 300 feet
Time: 3 hours
Weather: After a morning of heavy showers the weather improved and became warm and sunny giving good views over the fells though it was wet and muddy underfoot.
Comments: This is a varied walk with many interesting things to see apart from the fantastic landscape.
The “Shepherds’ Church has references to shepherds over the lych gate and over the door and in the porch there are spaces for the shepherds to hang their crooks. There are hand-crafted iron gates, the plaque in memory of the Abbeystead disaster of 1984, Abbeystead Hall, belonging to the Duke of Westminster and the weir definitely has the WOW factor, especially after the heavy rain we have had this week.
