Walk: Hameldon Scouts, Peel Park and Monument, Huncoat, Leeds & Liverpool Canal
Start Point: Mill Hill car park at Childers Green Grid Reference: SD 787 308
Distance: 9 miles Ascent: 1300 feet
Time: 5.25 hours
Weather: Mixed dull, some sun, no rain and a bit windy, particularly on the higher sections

A circular walk roughly following the old parish boundaries of the historic village of Huncoat, recorded in the 11th Century Domesday Book. Once an industrial area but now reverted to rural landscape with a fine variety of open spaces with higher panoramic views. This walk starts with a climb up onto the Hameldon Scouts with splendid views before visiting the Peel Park overlooking Accrington. Down to Huncoat to visit the old stocks and the more recent Peace Garden, before crossing the fields to the foot bridge over the M65 and then along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Leaving the canal at Higher Shuttleworth Bridge. Under the M65 and over the rail line to return to the car park via Castle Clough Wood.
The nine people who took part in the walk were serenaded by a couple of Sky Larks.

The walk was devised by Roy Chetham in conjunction with: The Huncoat Community Forum, The Prospects Foundation and Hyndburn Borough Council.
