Walk: Johnsons Hillock, Denham Hill, Lower Simpson Fold and Wheelton
Start Point: Top Lock Pub, Wheelton Grid Reference: SD 516 923
Distance: 5 miles Ascent: 620 feet
Time: 3 hours
Weather: A Grey Day
Comments: The route had to be revised at the very start because the Leeds Liverpool Canal towpath was closed due to engineering works on the canal bank.  There is an alternative path on the opposite side of the canal leading to Top Lock Bridge.  The weather forecast gave rain but none arrived, it was just a cold damp day.  However, this did not stop the fifteen walkers from enjoying the hazy, all around, scenery.  Due to wet conditions some paths were muddy, and stiles a little slippery.  One young lady even managed to do a pirouette when climbing over a wobbly stile.  This is a good walking area in all seasons and the food at the Top Lock Pub goes down well.
