Walk: Applethwiate, Thornthwaite Forest, Old Mill tea rooms (none bought), Watches and Barkbeth below Broad End, Cumbria Way and Skiddaw House YHA
Start Point: Car park behind Latrigg Grid Reference: NY 281 254
Distance: 14 miles Ascent: 3,000 feet
Time: 7 hours
Weather: Low cloud with occasional showers
Comments: Walking in a clockwise direction, our group of five headed down the road for Applethwaite. We then turned off the road for paths through Thornthwaite Forest for the tea rooms at the Old Mill site on the A591. After elevenses we continued on forest paths below Ullock Pike to Barkbeth. After a short stretch of road walking towards Orthwaite, we picked up the Cumbria Way. Following this route for 3.5 miles we reached Skiddaw House, followed by the high level path below Lonscale Fell and the walk end. This last stretch of path had a substantial amount of running water so we had been lucky to miss what would have been heavy rain.

The Group is happy because they are not doing Skiddaw Top!
