Walk: Calton Moor, Weets Top, Mastiles Lane and Roman Fort, Malham Cove (top) and Janets Foss.
Start Point: Airton Village Green Grid Reference: SD 903 592
Distance: 12.5 miles Ascent: 1,300 feet
Time: 6 hours
Weather: Light winds but overcast and misty all day.
Comments: The walk took in some road, fells, open grassy paths, damp and slippery Limestone paving. The walk took us through Calton for Calton Moors and Weets Top. With the bulk of the ascent now complete our path lead downwards taking us eventually to Mastiles lane and the site of the Roman Fort. Continuing on we passed Malham Tarn (not seen) before taking the path to the top of Malham Cove and Lunch. After lunch we headed down to Janet’s Foss, a 1st for three of the group. The last leg was through fields and along the River Aire. Despite not having the clearer skies, the walk seemed to have been enjoyed by all.
