Walk: High Rigg, Clough Head, Calfhow Pike, Little Dodd, Great Dodd, Watson’s Dodd and Stybarrow Dodd
Start Point: Stanah Lane Grid Reference: NY 318 189
Distance: 11.4 miles Ascent: 4,000 feet
Time: 6.25 hours
Weather: Rain
Comments:

Four of us set off hoping that the weather would improve, but sadly that was not to be the case as it started raining before we reached High Rigg our first summit.

Unfortunately, it rained all day and with very low cloud, visibility was extremely poor.

Dropping from this summit we were able to seek shelter for our 11’s at St John’s church before moving on to climb Clough Head from Wanthwaite. By now the very cold westerly wind we are all becoming familiar with this summer was making this more like a winter walk! So after taking a quick summit photo we set off following the ridge over Calfhow Pike, Little Dodd, Great Dodd, Watson’s Dodd and Stybarrow Dodd. Whilst the plan had been to also conquer Raise and Whiteside Bank we all agreed that there was little point, so we dropped down following Sticks Pass to the carpark.

All smiling on High Rigg

St John's Church

A seat in the church grounds makes an ideal spot for our 11's stop

Still smiling on Clough Head

Thank goodness there is a shelter for lunch on Great Dodd

As we drop beneath the clouds coming down Sticks Pass the rain eases and we finally get something to see!

Views at last over to High Rigg with Skiddaw in the distance
