Walk: Read Park, Spring Wood Picnic Site, Whalley, Whalley Banks
Start Point: The Game Cock Nr Whalley (A680) Grid Reference: SD 745 338
Distance: 5.5 miles Ascent: 730 feet
Time: 3.25 hours
Weather: Sunny periods, cool for early June
Comments: This circular walk was through pleasant countryside offering good views of the area from sometimes elevated paths.  Twenty eight people took part, including a seven and nine year old.  Commencing at The Game Cock near Great Harwood, the walk passed through Read Park to reach Spring Wood car park where toilets are available. Future visitors by car are advised that a parking fee is about to be introduced (£1).  From Spring Wood the route meandered into Whalley before climbing steeply to Whalley Banks and then on to The Game Cock.  Here the group enjoyed a carvery meal.  NB. The staff were very helpful with regard to Gluten free food
