Distance: 12 miles Ascent: 1,900 feet

Comments:

It was good to see Garry out walking with us again and a pleasure to welcome two guest walkers, Paul and Laura, who had found this walk on the Ramblers walk finder. Hopefully we will see them again as they are now going to join the Ramblers.

We caught the bus from Staveley to Windermere from where we set off on our linear journey over five of Wainwrights Outlying Fells before following the Dales Way back to our cars. The weather was horrendous with persistent rain all day and I’m sure if Wainwright had stood on Orrest Head on a day like this, being blasted by rain and with no views to enchant him, he would have just returned home to continue his life in Blackburn and his Lake District pictorial guides would never have been written. Just a thought!

Yes that is Garry and welcome to Paul & Laura

No views today from Orrest Head

Wet and muddy on Brant Fell

Very windy on School Knott

The past and the future on Grandsire

Our final top Cleabarrow Hill
