Walk: St Sunday Crag, Grisedale Tarn & Grisedale valley
Start Point: Cow Bridge car park Grid Reference: NY 403 134
Distance: 12.5 miles Ascent: 3,054 feet
Time: 6.5 hours
Weather: Wet, windy and cold
Comments:

This walk was planned to take in St Sunday Crag, Fairfield, Hart Crag and the Priests Cave. Due to strong cold winds and rain, which would have made the route from Fairfield to Hart Crag very unpleasant, the walk was abandoned after St Sunday Crag and an alternative route back was found. Our return took us from the col below Cofa Pike down to Grisedale Tarn for Grisedale valley and Patterdale. With the change of route the conditions gradually improved although the showers did continue but without the winds.
Three people in all completed a reasonable days walk

All smiles and it’s looking good for the day

First impressions can be wrong. On top of St Sunday Crag with Tony braving the weather.

On our way down with St Sunday crag as a backdrop

Lunch close by Luthwaite Lodge (a climbers hut just out of view). Also just out of site is . . .

a mine entrance which is easily accessible although a little damp.
