Walk: Brundhurst Farm, Old Doozes, Lower Reaps, Old Dads House and Mellor
Start Point: The Traders Arms, Mellor Grid Reference: SD 654 310
Distance: 5 miles Ascent: 500 feet
Time: 2.75 hours
Weather: Warm but overcast with an odd burst of sunshine.

Mellor is in the Ribble Valley BC area and stands at about 600 feet above sea level offering views of the Fylde Coast and the Ribble Valley.  The walk started by descending to Brundhurst Farm and the A 677 (Blackburn to Preston road).  Crossing the A 677, the route followed Further Lane for a while.  However, while on Further Lane a local gentleman advised that there was a Bull in a field that was part of the intended route.  The gentleman informed the nearby farmer of this.  The Farmer, being a kindly soul, mounted his Quad bike and rode off into the horizon to advise the Bull and his lady friends to ignore the party of Ramblers. (Actually, he stayed close to the Bull whilst the group hastily walked across the very long field). After passing Lodge Wood the walk re-crossed the A677 to start a steady climb of three hundred feet.  Sadly the decline in farming could be seen at Lower Reaps where a farm had become ruinous.  The Traders Arms offered fine fare, especially the Mince Plate Pie and mash.  Another pleasant walk.
