Walk: A direct walk to Calder Vale, setting out via Heald Wood and Heald Farm.  From Calder Vale we took the footpath northwards to Kelbrick Farm, Lower Cottage, Moor House and then the path south just before Burns Farm to Birks Farm and then skirted Wellbeck Wood to reach the church again.
Start Point: Barnacre Church Grid Reference: SD 503 487
Distance: 5 miles Ascent: 450 feet
Time: 3 hours
Weather: Very hot and sunny but the woods created shade and there was a gently cooling breeze at height.

The travel arrangements were horrendous on this hot sunny day due to heavy traffic, the M6 closed north of Galgate so there was congestion  prior to that and the A6 was closed at Broughton for road works.  The knock on affect created havoc on all surrounding roads.  The start of the walk, with 7 people, was delayed until 2.15 and it was agreed that Jane and Bill would try to find us  at Calder Vale.  We all met up at Kilbrick Farm with the late arrivals somehow overtaking the lead the group!! This made 10 in all to complete the walk.  It was great fun and enjoyable – eventually.  Many of the paths were very overgrown with nettles – all appearing in the last few weeks!!
