Walk:

Oxenhope to Upper Marsh quarries and the Bronte Way to Top Withins. Across the moor to Oxenhope Stoop, a short stretch along the watercourses, returning to Oxenhope by Stairs Lane and the Calder Aire Link.

Start Point: Oxenhope Railway Station Grid Reference: SE 032 353
Distance: 9.8 miles Ascent: 1,332 feet
Time: 5 hours
Weather: Wet. Cool. Misty on the moor. Memorable!
Comments:

The line about never regretting going out walking once you're home and dry certainly applied today.
The leader was (pleasantly???) surprised to find four sturdy souls report for action in spite of the dreadful forecast, which turned out not torrential, but steady rain for every step of the way.
There were few people about and wide views of Dales moorland and waterfalls were marred by the dismal weather. Nevertheless, we had a good day, crossing swollen streams, to Top Withins, thought to be the inspiration for Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Frank undeterred by bog-hopping more deeply than intended, and general camaraderie giving us a vigorous workout. Our sodden kit prevented accurate statistics and no photos of the day, but images of this area can be seen by accessing Starting Points for Oxenhope on the Fylde Ramblers website
