Walk: St. John’s church and school, Lower Landskill, Rough Moor, Stang Yule, Brook’s Barn, Hazelhurst Farm, Bleasdale Circle, Bleasdale Church, Bleasdale Tower, Fell End, Landskill, River Calder.
Start Point: Calder Vale Grid Reference: SD 533 458
Distance: 8.6 miles Ascent: 1,010 feet
Time: 4.5 hours
Weather: Dry, breezy and mainly sunny. Good visibility.
Comments: The walk was intended to go over access land to Hazelhurst Fell. However, when we reached Stang Yule, a notice announced that there was no access on this day. (No notice displayed on the reccie) The walk detailed above was Plan B!
The felling of trees around Stang Yule a few years ago drastically altered the area’s appearance. More recently Woodend and Middle Woods below Hazelhurst Fell have been flattened and Clough Heads Wood has been thinned out.

We started with roadside parking in Calder Vale.
The car park shown on the OS map is used by millworkers.
