Comments:

Along Water street to a footpath on the right 10 walkers set out on a fine sunny morning. We stopped for a while to read the Workhouse Memorial Plaque before heading off to climb out onto Denham Hill and a brief pause at the trig point. Down off the hill we headed into Denham quarry and a quiet stop for coffee. After leaving the quarry we followed Denham Lane and over farmland paths to drop into Whittle Springs. Leaving Whittle on lower Copthurst Lane we gained access onto the towpath of the Leeds Liverpool canal at Top Lock, at this point we selected our benches by the canal for our lunch. Following the canal we left the towpath at The Hartwood Hotel and making our way onto Dark lane we joined the canal at Top lock again. On along the canal to bridge 85 and made our way into Ramsbottom Wood. Out from the wood following the footpath to Marsh lane we crossed the M65 on up to Sandy Lane where we took a left turn to follow the road back Brindle, but not before calling in The Cavendish Arms for a welcome and refreshing cold drink. A great day's walking.
