Walk: River Lune, Lune Aqueduct, Lancaster Canal, Slyne, Halton
Start Point: Crook O Lune Picnic Site, Car Park Grid Reference: SD 521 648
Distance: 8.5 miles Ascent: 900 feet
Time: 5 hours
Weather: A  Dry Sunny day with clear views all the way.

11 walkers set out from the picnic site car park. We stayed on the cycleway which was the route of the old railway line so some good flat walking to start. We headed past the new M6 bridge construction formed to take the new circular road around Lancaster to Heysham. A steep steps climb took us up from the footpath to cross the Lune Aqueduct and  join the Lancaster Canal with a stop for coffee at Hammerton Hall Bridge. On along the towpath we left the canal at Bridge 111 to join Hasty Brow road and a route into the village of Slyne. In the village we took time to view the Old Manor House dating back to 1681. Through Slyne we turned right onto Bottomdale Road and some hill climbing, on to the crossroads at Four Lane Ends. Accross the junction we selected a quiet roadside spot at Pye Nanny Hall where we stopped for lunch. After lunch we followed the road heading towards Halton and  into the centre where the memorial cross stands on the roundabout. We then made our way down to join the River Lune again and a footpath route taking us past the weir and a climb into the woodland route taking us on a pathway leading back to the picnic site car park, a great day's walking in good weather.
