Walk: Leeds Liverpool Canal, Lady Mables Wood, Whelley, Hindley Hall Golf Course, Borsdane Wood, Haigh Hall Country Park
Start Point: Haigh Hall main Car Park (£3.00p) Grid Reference: SD 597 088
Distance: 9.3 miles Ascent: 800 feet
Time: 4.5 hours
Weather: A  misty start clearing to a dry day.

13 walkers set out from the Main Car Park at Haigh Hall Country Park. A short stretch of roadway took us to our left turn, heading down to Bridge 62 on the Leeds Liverpool Canal. We followed the towpath until we reached our exit into Lady Mables Wood with its matrix of footpaths providing walks of a number of distances to choose from. Following the disused railway we headed through more woodland and eventually reached the cycleway systems of Whelley where we had a coffee stop. Onwards after coffee our route took us towards Top Lock to meet the canal again, this was a short stretch where the canal turned 90 degrees on its route towards Ince. We left the canal system here and made our way to the perimeters of Hindley Hall Golf course passing the clubhouse and crossing the road to head towards Pennington Green and eventually into Borsdane Wood where we stopped for Lunch. A long stretch of woodland walking took us to the edge of the Borsdane Wood footpath to reach the outskirts of the village of Aspull. Skirting the perimeter of Aspull we then had extensive farmland tracks to negotiate on our route to the edge of Haigh Hall Country Park south side. A good path system took us through the park and past the Hotel where we headed back through the outdoor activity centre and the Main Car park where we started out. Great day's walking thanks to Richard.
