Start Point: Booth’s Car Park, Mill Brook Way, Penwortham Grid Reference: SD 520 270
Distance: 5.4 miles Ascent: Little
Time: 2.5 hours
Weather: Dry and bright with frosty fields.

On a sunny morning with the temperature hovering around zero, twenty-five people arrived at E.H. Booths, Penwortham for either a three, or five-and-a-half-mile walk.  Five people opted for the shorter walk to the east of Booth’s taking in Hurst Grange Park and the open areas in its vicinity.
The other twenty headed for Howick and Hutton passing through Howick Hall Farm, along Townley Lane, Ratten Lane, Lindle Lane and via Harrison Lane to return to Booth’s.  At Howick Hall Farm a Woodpecker could be heard in the distance pecking away.  The leader pointed out things of interest on the way.  Most of the group took lunch at the nearby Brown Hare.
