Walk: Walk around Wayoh Reservoir from Chapeltown, following Witton Weavers Way on eastern side of reservoir, to Entwistle Station, Strawberry Duck pub and  then footpath on western side of the reservoir back to Chetham Arms in Chapeltown
Start Point: Chetham Arms, Chapeltown Grid Reference: SD 732 158
Distance: 4.2 miles Ascent: 695 feet
Time: 2.5 hours
Weather: Very cold, just above freezing point, but fine after heavy snowfall over night.  Dull and misty but cleared  beautifully as the sun appeared and the temperature rose.

Our journey to the pub was slow, for all of us, as the overnight snow was causing traffic problems but the roads were clear except for the last stretch of 2.5 miles along Green Arms Road to Chapeltown as it hadn’t been gritted.  Twelve people braved the weather to come on this walk in challenging conditions.   Fortunately the fresh snow was still crunchy underfoot and hadn’t changed to ice but you still had to watch your footing.  It was well worth the minor struggles to see the picturesque landscapes with snow covered fields, and trees dripping with snow, and bare frozen branches.  There was hardly a breath of wind so the reflections were very beautiful, especially at our picnic stop at the northern end of Wayoh Reservoir.  The sun finally broke through for the second half of the walk making the scenery even more beautiful.  Chapeltown church looked very beautiful across the water as we neared the end of the walk.  The pub meals were very good and promptly served.  The walk was not the one planned for today but an excellent choice for the conditions.  Thank you Des and Vera.
