Footpath Diary 2016

Working together with the Rangers, we developed a programme of path maintenance on the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month, meeting at 1800 hours and spending a couple of hours cutting back, litter-picking, maintaining stiles and routes as needed.

We had an initial information and training event and set to work, a baptism of fire on a cold, cold evening at the gloomy bottom end of an industrial estate and arriving home with ice underfoot and hail thudding from above! Nevertheless, successful and fun!

You can see photos and read about what took place by clicking on the underlined dates below.

Our first foray into creating an ongoing footpath maintenance group within Fylde Ramblers is complete for this year and now we are planning longer term.

The first phase was bi-monthly evening sessions between April and October 2016, working and liaising with Wyre Rangers and Lancashire County Council, who have given invaluable guidance. It's not just a matter of clearing a path. We need to know about rights of way, who owns the land and who is responsible for its maintenance.
Fylde Ramblers have worked at sites throughout Wyre, averaging six to twelve people per session and enjoying a pub supper afterwards.
