A two centre holiday with walks in the Tramuntana Mountains

Mallorca is the largest and most mountainous of the Balearic Islands. The north west coast runs parallel to Tramuntana range of mountains stretching from Sant Elm in the west to Formentor in the east. Below the jagged summits, the upper slopes are terraced and cultivated with olive, carob and fig.

Starting in Puerto de Sóller, a natural bay just a short tram ride from the town of Sóller, the first week gave the option of two levels of walks, D and C. Taking advantage of the C walks option, coastal walks contrasted with  routes that took us to ridges and summits. For the second week we transferred to Sant Elm on the westernmost tip of the island, the pace becoming more relaxed with just D/D+ walks being available. On the free day a trip to the island of Dragonera added to the variety of walks led by a local resident (originally from England).
