Return to The Coast to Coast 2012

Walk: Frank’s Bridge, Lockthwaite, Tailbridge Hill, Nateby Common, Top of Dukerdale, Rollinson Haggs, 9 Standards Rigg, Faraday Gill, Hartley Quarry.
Start Point: Kirkby Stephen Group: The Lancashire Cake to Cakers (Pat Fergusson, Christine and John Harrison): Returning to 9 Standards Rigg
Distance: 10.5 miles Ascent: 1,500 feet
Time: 6 hours
Weather: Wet and overcast at first but fine and sunny later
Comments: When we completed the Coast to Coast walk last year we had some unfinished business. Because of the bad weather we had to do the Green Route on 9 Standards Rigg and did not see the Standards. We thought that we might be foiled again as there had been heavy overnight rain, the fields between Tebay and Kirkby Stephen were flooded, and rivers and streams were in spate. The route is a good alternative to ascending via the C2C route and follows rarely used paths over access land.

It was raining as we left Kirkby Stephen via Frank's Bridge

The clouds started to lift

Looking back down Dukerdale

Crossing flooded becks was fun

Last year we could hardly see 20 yards from this shelter

It's a serious business

The Nine Standards suddenly came into view

The view point was as impressive as the view

A further triumph from the Lancashire Cake to Cakers

We actually took more than 9 photos of the Standards

They are so photogenic

It was a shame to leave them

Our return was down the C2C route of ascent

We still had problems with flooded streams
